Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about our Kanban courses and certifications
There is a lot to understand about Kanban University's curriculum and how all of the courses fit together. Which courses are required? Are there any prerequisites? Please take a look at all of the frequently asked questions below. If you have a question that is not answered here, please contact us.
What makes Depth Consulting different than other training providers?+
Kert, Alexei, and Dave are three of the most experienced Accredited Kanban Trainers (AKTs) in North America and have a track record of delivering high-quality classroom experiences. And, as a Depth Consulting registrant, you will get access to the online Kanban 101 video training to use prior to (and after) your classroom, which no other providers have.
What prerequisites do I need for Kanban training?+
No formal prerequisites are required for foundation-level courses like Team Kanban Practitioner (TKP) and Kanban System Design (KSD). We recommend some experience working in a team environment and we recommend our online Kanban 101 training. Advanced courses like Kanban Systems Improvement (KSI) and Kanban Maturity Model (KMM) benefit from prior exposure to Kanban concepts or practice but do not have formal prerequisites.
Are the classes live, online, or in-person?+
We offer both live online and in-person formats depending on schedule and demand. Private on-site delivery is available for organizations. You can contact us to discuss options and upcoming dates.
Do you run hybrid online/in-person classes?+
We do not offer hybrid online/in-person classes. This has proven to be very difficult to manage for the trainer and dissatisfying for the participants. We are happy to schedule separate online and in-person classes back-to-back.
Would you recommend taking the Team Kanban Practitioner prior to Kanban System Design?+
No, we do not recommend taking the Team Kanban Practitioner (TKP) course prior to the Kanban System Design (KSD) course. The KSD course provides the same level of foundational knowledge as the TKP course, and adds the STATIK Workshop which focuses on the practical application of Kanban in real-world scenarios. The only time TKP (or our 1-day Kanban Foundations class) is recommended is when there is a time or fiscal constraint that makes KSD impractical.
Are there any certification exams that I must take after my class?+
At this time, there are no certification exams for the Team Kanban Practitioner (TKP), Kanban System Design (KSD), or Kanban System Improvement (KSI) courses. Students receive Certificates of Completion for these classes. Once a student has completed both KSD and KSI, they will receive the Kanban Management Professional (KMP) designation that they could place on their resume or LinkedIn profile. If a student would like to become a Kanban Coaching Professional, a certification exam is required after all other requirements have been met.
